Being Social Is Always On the To-Do List

Being Social is always on the to-do list Are you naturally sociable? Are you outgoing with people, and can start a conversation with a complete stranger? What if you’re not? What if the mere thought of asking a stranger a…

Easiest Way to be Social: Tell Your Story

Easiest Way to be Social: Tell Your Story! As a Social Media professional I hear many excuses why businesses don’t have a presence on Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn, etc). One of them is “We don’t know what to talk about.”

The easiest place to start is by telling your story. How did your business come to be what it is today?

What Kind of LinkedIn User Are You?

What kind of LinkedIn user are you?

Rare

“I opened up an account but haven’t completed my profile, and don’t visit the site.”

The only thing worse than not having a LinkedIn account if you’re a professional, is to have a dormant one. If people see a dormant account they may think that is how you feel about your career or your business.

“I appreciate the LinkedIn platform, and respect the ways of using it properly. I try to only post important items; Like and comment on posts I find interesting, or are supportive of a colleague or business; and realize the potential to make important connections.” Bravo!

LinkedIn Adds Banner Customization

This morning I saw that LinkedIn is now giving customization and branding options for your background banner at the top of your Profile page.  This is a change that was bound to come, following what many of the other Social Media sites have already been doing.  Nice to see LinkedIn offering this feature!

My Week at the U.S. Army War College National Security Seminar

Little did I know that my overly inquisitive nature, and my love of Social Media, would get me nominated to attend the National Security Seminar at the U.S. Army War College! Long story short leading up to my nomination: our Army National Guard daughter was at AIT (Advanced Individual Training) at Fort Gordon. I met the Colonel of her Brigade, Colonel Stephen Elle, thru the admin of their Facebook page. Besides other similarities, we are both Minnesota Vikings fans! While my husband and I were at Ft Gordon for her graduation we met and chatted with the Colonel in his office. He mentioned the National Security Seminar and I was immediately interested! I honestly felt it was a huge long shot to be selected, but like I keep telling others “If you don’t try, you won’t know.”

Sit With a Stranger on the Bus

This past week I was honored to be a New Member of the Army War College, at their National Security Seminar (NSS). More on the NSS and Army War College in my next blog post. There were many fascinating military and civilian students and staff, and fellow New Members in my smaller Seminar group. But equally interesting were those I met on the 30-40 minute bus rides to and from Carlisle Barracks and our hotel.

Picture your classic coach bus, with two seats on each side. Promptly at 7:00 each morning we are able to get on the busses. The same was true for the afternoons when departing for the hotel. We get on, and then there is a waiting time until the bus is full.

Most of us attended not knowing anyone else who was a New Member. Therefore you were most likely going to sit with a complete stranger on the bus, especially that very first morning. I chose to sit with Anne, aka Catherine as I found out thru one of her stories.
